Bio
John Erickson has nearly 39 years’ experience in the pipeline industry. He joined the American Public Gas Association (APGA) in August 2004 as Vice President, Operations, responsible for the APGA Operations and Safety Committee. Until July 31, 2018, he was responsible for liaison with the federal Office of Pipeline Safety, the National Transportation Safety Board as well as state pipeline safety associations. He monitored federal regulatory activity affecting public gas engineering and operations, prepared analyses on key issues and advocated APGA’s positions with key government agencies. From 1981 to 1996 he did the same for the American Gas Association.
From 1997 to present, he has also been President of Safety and Compliance Evaluation which provides pipeline safety consulting. From 2006 to present he has also been Chief Operating Officer for the APGA Security and Integrity Foundation (SIF), a non-profit foundation that provides products and services to assist small gas operators to address pipeline safety and security challenges. He was the primary developer of the SHRIMP program to create customized Distribution Integrity Management Programs (DIMP) which has been used by over 1,600 small gas operators. As of August 1, 2018, he became semi-retired, working part-time for APGA as well as limited consulting engagements.
His experience includes serving on the API working groups on public awareness and pipeline safety management systems and on PHMSA’s operator qualification negotiated rulemaking group and distribution integrity management working group.
He has a BS in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from The George Washington University. He is a registered professional engineer in Virginia.
