Bio
John Hill is currently Vice-President of Natural Gas System Safety for Black Hills Energy. In this role, he leads a team of professional and technical employees in support of the Natural Gas Utilities business which includes around 30,000 miles of distribution mains, 4,600 miles of transmission lines, seven storage fields and one million customers spanning six states. He has primary responsibility for pipeline safety, risk and integrity management, training/OQ, gas control, engineering, major project execution and utility technology strategy.
Before joining Black Hills Energy, he spent 15 years at Duke Energy in various leadership positions of increasing responsibility in Electric Generation, Environmental, Health & Safety and Gas Operations. He started his professional career as an engineering consultant.
John graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering and later obtained an MBA from the University of Kentucky. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ohio and Kentucky.
He has been actively involved in technical and community organizations throughout his career and currently serves as Treasurer of the Rapid City Library Foundation, Board member of Operations Technology Development (OTD) supporting research in the pipeline industry as well as Chair of the Industry Pipeline SMS team.
